Assessment and monitoring of drought in Chitradurga district of Karnataka using different drought indices

 Drought is a natural disaster due to less precipitation than the normal that can occur irrespective of climate regimes. Impact assessment drought and monitoring are most important mitigation stratregies combat effects. As single index cannot assess all conditions, in present study multi-variate indices approach has been used monitor drought. Five were assessed using data such as deciles (DI), percent (PN), China-Z (CZI), Z-Score (ZSI) standardized (SPI). Monthly total was calculate events occurred during period 1967–2017 different talukas Chitradurga district Karnataka, India. The revealed SPI, CZI ZSI performance similar identifying PN very much responsive for rainfall particular year however, it exhibited variations dry conditions. DI not satisfactory Among five assessed, SPI seems be best indicator predict onset other four indices. Therefore recommended assessing India.
